The Cortona tablet (Tabula Cortonensis)

This is a bronze tablet of 46 x 28 cm that was discovered in Cortona in 1999. It is broken in 8 almost square pieces, one of which was not found.

The tablet is covered with Etruscan text on both sides. Side B contains some sort of contract, possibly concerning the lots of two families. Side A contains the names of the persons who “signed” the document. The text comprises 200 word tokens and 81 word types. This is the longest Etruscan inscription found so far.
