The Golden Book
Golden Book from Sofia

The Golden Book consists of six sheets of 24 carat gold, bound by rings. It was discovered about 1943 in a tomb near the river Strouma in south-western Bulgaria. Its finder donated it anonymously to the National History Museum in Sofia in 2003. The book contains illustrations featuring a horse-rider, a mermaid, a harp and soldiers. Nothing is known abouth the text. The book may have been produced about -600. Its authenticity has not been definitely established by 2006. (Source: BBC News 26.05.2003)
